Development Components
-
Annual Bike Marathon
that will draw thousands of local and international cyclists to South Africa and Soweto boosting tourism and local job creation within Soweto as the world renowned venue is seen and understood to host an international Cycling Challenge.
-
Sustainable ‘cycling
exposure’ will encourage people to make use of ‘bikes’ as opposed to walking long distances. This will encourage the growth of ‘bike shops’ for sales, repairs and general wear and tear of bike maintenance and support infrastructure.
-
The Project will
continue to train marshals for the Event. These Marshals have been sourced from the community of Soweto, creating employment and encouraging involvement in the local community.
-
The Cycling
Challenge will draw people from all levels in society that will need accommodation and transport while staying over in Soweto. This will lead to further interaction and possibly longer stays in Soweto.
-
Generally ‘cycling’
will change in Soweto, as people will be encouraged to become Safety Aware –as 1000 helmets were given to all Entrants of the ‘Dikwiel Race”. This will be an ongoing programme developing the “no helmet, no ride “ culture in Soweto.
